Our Dictionary Project Took a New Direction
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, our local schools closed in March, leaving students without many of the books they need to work online from home.  The North Shore Youth Council began a program of collecting donated books that kids could use.  Following social distancing guidelines, Council staff sanitized incoming donations and prepared them for distribution.  Our Rotary Club member, Bobby Woods, a counselor at NSYC, reached out to us to help acquire more donations.  Coincidentally, we were just about to distribute dictionaries to third graders at two of the schools they service when the schools closed, possibly til the end of the school year.  However, North Shore willingly accepted our dictionaries and will handle their distribution, helping families struggling to cope at this time.  Who knows, maybe having a dictionary in the house during this extended "stay-at-home" will help with those Scrabble game arguments.  A win-win!
